Launch Window

Tour de France 2021 is a continuation game, based on the previous installment, with all the good and bad that this entails. On the one hand, it updates with the news so that the game remains valid to be released together with this year's test, but on the other hand, changes that surprise or take a step forward in the franchise are missing. A compliant game to satisfy cycling fans who want to emulate their idols from the comfort of their sofa.

The world of professional cycling was never going to be an easy sport to translate to a game. Cyanide Studios have made this even harder by making a game that seems to appeal only to the sport's keenest of fans at the expense of educating and rewarding the curiosity of new fans to the sport.‍

Cyanide brings us one more year the official game of the Tour de France. This 2021 has not brought great changes to a formula that, although it can delight the most enthusiastic followers of cycling, it still has great shortcomings.

Tour de France 2021 remains a quite good game (accessibility, immersion, strategic options), but Cyanide risks losing credibility with its loyal fans. A graphic step is neede and the developer has to be more generous in novelties so as not to become an anonymous rider in the middle of the peloton.

Tour de France 21 isn't a particularly fun game to play for a neutral, but will appeal to a core fanbase, whilst giving all of us something of an appreciation of what a tough sport this is.

This is a surprisingly tactical title overall, though, and it does bring something different to the genre. If you’re looking for a different kind of sports game, this could be worth shaving your legs for.
