Late Review“Maglam Lord ends up in an unusual niche. It has better production values than a budget title but doesn’t offer enough to compete with a full AAA release. This makes it a lot of fun when expectations get set appropriately. It was perfect for those days when I just wanted to punish enemies by mashing buttons, and the accompanying story was a pleasant bonus.”

Late Review“There is little in Magnum Lord that stands out as good or interesting. The story segments are mildly amusing, as well as a few of the characters, but the plot goes nowhere fast, and the rest of the game is hard to enjoy. Combat oscillates between two second stomps to five minute plus long slogs, all the while being far more boring than it might look. The entire other 'half' beyond the visual novel segments is laughably bad in the design and the game does little to separate itself from either better or more unique JRPGs currently out.”

Late Review“The funky settings of the world of Maglam Lord is somewhat weird but appreciated. Sadly, the variety of the content becomes too repetitive due to the lack of variable maps, recycled character motions, a short number of skills to learn and most attacks require the players to mash and grind buttons in quick succession to do more damage than not. There is no value in multiple playthroughs either so overall the game feels like an empty can at most.”

Late Review“Maglam Lord has styles of quite old fashioned JRPG, especially its graphic looks like it was developed at 90's, the Playstation One era. But the developers, who also have made 'Summon Night' series, successfully create another simple, great immersive story.”

Late Review“It’s certainly not a bad title, and thankfully the issues that are there are such that they don’t create an active barrier to progress, but the entertaining parts are steadily diluted enough that the experience as a whole misses out on being something to be fully celebrated.”

Late Review“Underwhelming in all aspects outside of the story and characters, Maglam Lord isn't a game that will have you hooked from beginning to end, but there is enough here in its narrative for those looking for something a bit more light-hearted.”

Late Review“Maglam Lord has a few interesting ideas: the protagonists or its anime aesthetics, but in the rest it is below giving us a gameplay that we will be more accustomed to seeing in mobile games.”

Late Review“Overall, Maglam Lord had a lot of potential that it just didn’t fully capitalize on. While characters and dialogue are done really well, the combat that becomes tedious contrasting against some arbitrarily powerful or annoying bosses can be frustrating. Most enemies are simply palette swaps, including bosses that are just large normal enemies, and an annoying grind for materials at times really serve to slow the game down. Maglam Lord certainly isn’t bad, but it isn’t all it could be, either.”

Late Review“In the end, Maglam Lord isn't a reference for action RPGs or the best visual novel, but it mixes a little of their aspects, making a charismatic, fun and excellent title for someone who wants something more casual. It's more like a date rather than a [title to have a] serious relationship [with].”

Late Review“If your action-RPG library has felt a little lacking as of late,Maglam Lord might be what you’re looking for. This story of a long-slumbering Bladelord awakening to a new world order combines dungeon exploration with side-scrolling encounters and a splash of romance.”

Late Review“Maglam Lord has a lot of potential, but you'll need to stick it out and try to squeeze some joy from its repetitive combat system and stale dungeon design. Along with its writing, an excellently drawn cast of characters - who can be recruited and romanced through the dating mechanic - offer shining moments in an otherwise unremarkable action-JRPG. The potential is certainly there for something special, and the game's visual cues for possible results of dialogue options removes much of the guesswork common in other games, but the execution falls flat in the combat department and holds back the enjoyable visual novel elements of this package from being as good as they could be.”

Late Review“There’s a place for this kind of game, though, and thanks to the great sense of humour, Maglam Lord remains a delight from start right through to its end. It’s a kind of comfort food that operates within the expectations of the genre, and so, while someone who is not familiar with JRPGs will find it all confounding, if you do appreciate the nuances and of the genre it’s going to entertain you a great deal.”

Late Review“Maglam Lord combines a handful of genres into one package, and does it well enough to make it at least fun. However, it's the kind of fun that comes from mindlessly consuming something with little resistance. Maglam Lord works well as an in-between game, but it cannot hold up against other titles that specialize in the genres that this game combines.”
