Launch Window“R-Type Final 3 Evolved is a solid take on the classic, side-scrolling shmup formula popularized by games such as Gradius and the old R-Type games. Admittedly, the naming is a bit confusing as this is essentially an expanded version of R-Type Final 2 as opposed to a new sequel. This makes it great for folks who don’t own the previous game but a bit of a pricey proposition for players who already paid for R-Type Final 2. It would have been nice to give such players the option to just get the seven new stages via DLC instead of having to re-buy a whole new version of the game again.”

Launch Window“R-Type Final 3 Evolved is an R-Type, as faithful in the canons as in the style of the franchise. The package also includes R-Type 2, an appreciated bonus, but everything about the shop and customization is done badly.”

Launch Window“R-Type Final 3 Evolved is a decent shooter, which many will enjoy, but it lacks the finesse and stark beauty of the titles that inspired it.”

Launch Window“R-Type Final 3 Evolved is bananas with both its absurd level of difficulty and its vast amount of content to enjoy. So, if you loved your time with R-Type Final 2 then you'll have a blast blowing up Bydo in this badass sequel as well.”

Early Review“In the grand echelon of modern bullet hell shooters, R-Type Final 3 Evolved is still one of the most advanced and featured-filled games available right now, but as a game only available on the PS5, supposedly taking advantage of what that hardware has to offer? Yeah, I don’t see the point. It’s barely better performing than its predecessor, sometimes featuring framerate hiccups not even R-Type Final 2 had. I don’t see why this wasn’t a cross-gen title, since its exclusivity will do nothing but hinder its sales.”

Early Review“If you have a hankering for a new shoot ’em up on your PlayStation 5 or played Final 2 and just really need 7 new stages and a selection of new customizables then R-Type Final 3: Evolved could be right up your alley. If you played but weren’t really into previous R-Type titles or had your fill with R-Type Final 2, then this is a bit of a tough sell considering it’s not really a sequel but more of an enhanced update. Confusing nature aside, I had my fun with R-Type Final 3: Evolved, but it didn’t quite do enough for me personally to stick around. After spending countless hours on the previous game, I felt like dipping out quickly after seeing the new stages.”
