The Rogue Prince of Persia stands as both an excellent and innovative entry in the long-running series and a worthy follow-up to the developer's previous work. The smooth action, gorgeous visuals, and addictive loop all come together to make for the kind of game that's tough to put down.Though skilled players may be a bit put off by the easier difficulty relative to roguelite genre standards, this is still a very easy recommendation for anyone interested in a more approachable roguelite that doesn't have a massive learning curve. Evil Empire has done a great job in crafting an impressive, approachable action game here.

Even with its faults, The Rogue Prince of Persia is another strong outing for Ubisoft's long-running franchise, still fresh off of last year's overlooked gem, The Lost Crown. Evil Empire continues to up its game and it'll be exciting to see what awaits the team beyond the Prince's Oasis.

Between Dead Cells and other rogue-lites, The Rogue Prince of Persia may not hold hardcore fans over in the very long run. Nevertheless, its premise is incredibly solid, backed by strong gameplay that channels the essence of Prince of Persia in all the right ways.

In the crowded roguelite genre, The Rogue Prince of Persia stands apart, thanks to super-smooth animation and deliriously fun free running. Whilst it never quite escapes the traps that occupants of its chosen genre often fall into, it still provides plenty of top-quality platforming fun.

The Rogue Prince of Persia presents itself as a solid and engaging roguelite-style action platformer which, despite strongly echoing Dead Cells, manages to carve out its own identity thanks to the protagonist's agility and a fluid, rewarding gameplay experience. The variety of equipment, meta-progression, and procedurally generated levels offer notable depth, although the relatively low difficulty and limited content might disappoint more demanding players.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is a platforming masterclass, and it's a must play for fans of 2D action titles, Dead Cells, and pretty much everyone else.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is both a fantastic Prince of Persia game and a brilliant roguelite. Evil Empire draws on the DNA of Dead Cells to make a game that offers a compelling combination of platforming and combat, robust roguelite systems, and an understanding of the underlying rhythms of action games. It's as enthralling to watch and listen to as it is to play.

While nothing that The Rogue Prince of Persia offers is genre-defining, its pieces combine into an experience as rich as the Persian kingdom itself.

Even in its early state, The Rogue Prince of Persia masterfully blends the best of Prince of Persia and Dead Cells in a solid package offering a more involved narrative, excellent platforming, dynamic combat and a lot of death, as is tradition for a proper roguelite. While there's still a lot of work to be done, regarding content and balance, the game's strong core mechanics have the potential to make it one of the best Metroidvania roguelites ever made.

The Rogue Prince of Persia enters its Early Access stage with a little less punch than you might expect but Evil Empire's pedigree means the foundation is rock solid. Thanks to fluid and responsive movement and an overarching commitment to vibe, this is a prince with eyes set firmly on the crown.

Evil Empire has come up with an absolute banger of a roguelite that is not afraid to show where its inspirations lie, so much so that The Rogue Prince of Persia could be interpreted as some sort of Dead Cells 2 set in The Prince of Persia universe. If this is what the devs are really capable of, let's hope they keep finding video games that inspire the entire team.
