Late Review

While all MOBAs have gone one direction, Awesomenauts Assemble! is still – after all these years – one of a kind. Its 2D platforming and overall accessibility make it great for kids, people new to the genre, and MOBA aficionados looking for a cool distraction from their main game.

A simpler take on the MOBA genre that's overflowing with silliness.

Awesomenauts Assemble! does a great job in taking the MOBA format and doing something different with it.

Playing Awesomenauts Assemble with a friend is a wonderful experience. Finally Xbox One gamers can play this ridiculously fun MOBA inspirated game with some of the most wacky characters you'll find on the console.

Awesomenauts provides fun by the bucket load. It takes a while to get accustomed to the different characters and play stlyes, but once you've mastered the basics the rest falls into place. Solid fun and even better if you can get a few mates together.

In closing I'd like to reiterate how much I thoroughly enjoy Awesomenauts, and most especially the content seen in the new release. However, I do worry that the new content seen in Awesomenauts Assemble may not be quite enough for other fans to double dip.

Awesomenauts Assemble! accomplished what it set out to do, which is to offer the best parts of the MOBA genre without the high bar of entry those games offer.

Outside of the new playable characters and patched up gameplay, Awesomenauts Assemble! does little to distance itself from its PS3 counterpart. Fortunately, it's still an enjoyable MOBA, with smooth – if a little slow – gameplay and a refreshing visual style. It's without a doubt the best and most complete version of Ronimo Games' excellent eighties homage to date – but it never quite does enough to make it worth a double-dip.

If you are looking for a game that you can pick up and play really quickly while waiting to go to school, while something sits in the oven, or while you wait for your boyfriend or girlfriend to finish getting ready, this is a game for you.  Awesomenauts Assemble! is an incredibly fun game to pick up at a moment's notice and still fully immerse yourself in its wackiness.

Awesomenauts was an easy recommendation before, and with the addition of new characters and other improvements, Assemble! is a must-have both for those who haven't experienced the game and veterans who want to play the best possible console version. Anyone who enjoys run and gun shooters or action platformers will enjoy this, and it's a perfect gateway game to the MOBA genre.

Awesomenauts Assemble! retains the simple-but-fast and fun gameplay of its last-gen predecessor, but there's not enough new content in this version to justify double-dipping unless you're a hardcore fan.
