“I can see why Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel was well-received back in the 1990s. The game was surprisingly deep in terms of exploration and gameplay mechanics, but by today’s standards (and multi-buttoned controllers), it feels archaic and held back by the limitations of the time. You’ll waste a lot of time trying to grasp the double jump and flying/gliding mechanics, which is the complete opposite of fun. If the developer (porting studio?) had the opportunity to re-work the initial code to adapt it to today’s standards, this game would’ve scored much higher. As it stands, unless you want to (re)live some of the frustrations us gamers who grew up in the 1990s, this is an easy pass.”

“NHL 25 brings some welcome changes to gameplay, particularly in AI and match realism, but as a whole, it feels more like a cautious step forward than a revolution. While the graphics and gameplay have improved, the game still lags behind the competition. The biggest disappointment remains the stagnation of game modes, especially Be A Pro, which has been crying out for a significant overhaul for years. Overall, NHL 25 will please fans on the ice, but much remains unfinished off the ice.”

“The game runs very well with no framerate issues at all. A major gripe I had with the game was when I dismantled a gun to repair it. The camera always pulls back to the centre. When it does this every time, it starts to become tedious. I wish the upgrades were better, as they don’t seem worth it. It’s okay that the upgrade makes sanding quicker, but that’s only part of the process. What about the cutting or carving, as they are all part of the same task when playing?”

Sadly, it has numerous problems, and while some, like its linear structure and repetitive gameplay, are easy to accept due to its deeply atmospheric world and enjoyable combat and exploration, there’s an irritating lack of polish, making it a hard recommendation to anyone but those few passionate indie game aficionados that can appreciate a hidden gem even if it happens to be placed inside a rusted, stinky, cracked box. Again, disappointing.”

With punchy boss fights and a great sense of scale, there really isn't anything this doesn't do really well. A thorough recommendation for PS VR2 owners!”
