Featuring more elaborate storytelling, this sequel takes us on a new journey that is as rich in emotion as it is captivating, seducing us with both the beauty of its narrative and the artistic punch it delivers at every turn. Its gameplay improvements are also worth noting, even if a few weaknesses remain in the last third of the adventure. But fortunately, nothing that spoils the experience, from which we still come away with the feeling of having had a great time.”

But if you’re unwilling to spend a hefty sum for each new MLB The Show iteration, and all you really want is a pretty, competent, and responsive baseball simulator, one which is very forgiving to newcomers and perfect for quick, local matches, then Konami’s brand new F2P sports game does a remarkably good job in that aspect. Just understand its scope is very limited. Then again, you’re not paying for it, so that’s still a lot of bang for your nonexistent buck, regardless.”

I do feel like the game ratchets up in difficulty once you reach the second major area, at which point a multiplayer approach becomes more advisable, but you can also farm resources in previous areas to upgrade your stuff beyond whatever recommended level a given stage recommends. I still think the industry is oversaturated with roguelites, but Rotwood is one of the good ones.”

“Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are clean-cut distillations of why the series has endured in the eyes of millions. The tried-and-true gameplay loop of exploring, catching, and battling is in a beautifully simplistic form here. With little written narrative and simplified visuals, my mind is allowed to wander and craft a story of its own. It makes for an especially striking contrast and compliment to Switch titles like Legends: Z-A or Scarlet/Violet. While it’s hard not to argue that these Switch conversions are a little too no-frills for their own good, you’re ultimately still left with a Pokémon game that’s extremely fun to revisit again and again thanks to its open-ended world and the broadly engaging layout of Kanto. Full stop, these are deeply charming and easy recommendations.”
