“It’s a fine game, even if it’s a bit generic and every single story “twist” you’ll see coming a mile away. It’s an enjoyable time, but only if you eliminate the expectation for a Plague Tale game. This is really only a Plague Tale game in name only.”

“Initially, we were a little unsure about the direction Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy was taking. But once it settles into its story, it becomes a spellbinding adventure that successfully mixes A Plague Tale and its universe with Greek mythology.”

The Games MachineAug 26, 2026Score 90Pre-release Review

“Star Wars Zero Company is one of those rare examples where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The solidity of its turn-based tactical combat blends seamlessly with the team members' progression mechanics, the team management aspect, and all the different narratives it weaves-from the overarching plot to the small personal stories. Each system, taken individually, is more than good, but it's the way they influence one another (mirroring the relationships between the game's characters) that elevates the experience and makes every battle (or every decision) feel like the most important one yet.”

“Die-hard fans of the A Plague Tale franchise might need some time to get used to its new gameplay direction, but once they do, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy becomes an exciting new chapter for the series. It retains the franchise's strong storytelling, exploration, puzzle-solving, and atmospheric world design while introducing faster, more action-focused combat. Despite some technical issues with character clipping, camera behavior, and environmental collision, its gorgeous visuals, excellent soundtrack, and strong accessibility options make it easy to recommend. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a bold new direction that successfully builds upon the franchise's foundation while offering something fresh for both returning fans and newcomers.”

“While Amicia and Hugo de Rune got closer to my heart than Sophia, gameplaywise I liked the prequel even more. The versatile sword fights got oomph and as adventure fan the creative puzzles are right up my alley of courrse.”

“I really want to like “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.” It looks fantastic, features a protagonist with a rough-and-tumble personality, and offers well-crafted puzzle-solving and exploration gameplay. The idea of following clues from Sophia’s visions instead of a quest line—and solving puzzles to find a mystical treasure in true treasure-hunter style—brings out the Indiana Jones in me.”

“Asobo Studio has done it mission accomplished. After Innocence and Requiem, the development team realized that the series needed a major overhaul, especially in terms of gameplay. In our opinion, not only have the developers succeeded in this endeavor, but we’re confident that this third installment will captivate not only fans of the series but also those experiencing A Plague Tale for the first time. A graphical gem, masterful audio, a deep story, a dynamic combat system, and standard replay value. There are a few minor flaws (enemy AI, environmental interaction, and frame rate drops) that, however, do not detract from the overall quality of the game. A must-play title, no ifs, ands, or buts… one of the best action-adventure games of the year.”

“With Captain Tsubasa 2 World Fighters, Tamsoft has evolved the arcade formula of the first installment by adding mechanics like the new parry and the Chain System, which enrich the gameplay and make it much deeper than its predecessor. The only disappointment is the lack of additional content and a few flaws that, at least in part, we hope can be fixed with post-launch support.”

“Asobo's prequel adds toe-to-toe combat and hands-off puzzling to the Plague Tale recipe to winning effect – but the trauma porn of its second half takes considerable shine off an otherwise smartly paced action-adventure.”

“The spin-off Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will have put aside some structuring aspects of the series: the team (a top when you make a game in a bunch of pirates), stealth, a certain discourse about childhood and betrayal. There is still immense work done on writing and dialogues, the credibility of the characters who would have deserved to be put in another context of a labyrinth that will be lived like a corridor. To see if the studio will do another part on Arnaud.”

“Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a great game with a compelling and excellently performed story. There are still ties back to the original series for fans, and still plenty of tense stealth section, but this is more action adventure with combat that offers a decent challenge. A new way to adapt the mythology of the Minotaur is the cherry that tops this experience.”

“It's honestly hard to "review" a game that's been widely praised as Elden Ring four years after the fact. Ultimately, only one thing matters here with the Tarnished Edition: how is the performance? The game is most certainly taking some shortcuts here to get the game running on Switch 2 hardware. That said, there's a chance you'll only notice those shortcuts if you're actively looking for them. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is one of, if not the, best third-party games on the Nintendo Switch 2.”

“Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a fun title that successfully captures the anime's action and excitement on the virtual pitch. Gameplay additions make the experience even more strategic, and customizing your own athlete is enjoyable—especially with the introduction of the new position. The narrative is another major highlight, particularly because this marks the first time this specific arc has been adapted for another medium.”

“Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy isn't meant to be just a sequel, but rather a standalone action-adventure set in the familiar universe. The shift from helpless tension to aggressive sword-fighting is risky, but it fits Sophia as the protagonist in a way that makes sense. Resonance is a fantastic action-adventure that tells an emotional and compelling story.”
