MonsterVineJul 8, 2026Score 60Pre-release Review

“Echoes of Aincrad has the potential to be a stand-out Sword Art Online game, but it struggles to bear the weight of strangely archaic mechanics and monotonous missions. The story and visuals may be enough to get series fans into the game, but anyone else will likely be hard-pressed to get much out of the game.”

“Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced proves that a remake doesn’t need to reinvent a classic to justify its existence. By modernizing the gameplay mechanics and expanding the original game’s story, Ubisoft has delivered the definitive version of Edward Kenway’s journey.”

GamesHedgeJul 8, 2026Score 95Pre-release Review

“Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a remake done right, and I will praise Ubisoft for handling it this way. It is not just a visual treat; it adds new mechanics in nearly every aspect of the game to expand it and immerse the player even more in the world of piracy. I can easily say that there is no other game ever made that captures the true essence of being a pirate. Even Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones does not come close to it, and that was a proper game made for pirates. Whether you are a long-term Assassin’s Creed fan, an old Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag player, or a new player just experiencing this brilliant franchise, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a gorgeous remake that will keep you occupied for hours. This is Ubisoft gold.”

“Endless Ragnarok is very much worth playing through, not only because of characters like Fediel and Maglielle, who will have you rethinking how you tackle the game’s encounters entirely, but also because of the flashy new fights and new grinds available, as well as the extremely fun summoning system.”

“I don't know if a remake of a 2013 game was really necessary, but the fact is that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced manages to perfectly replicate the great experience provided by the original version, modernizing mechanics, bringing new features that expand the game's universe, and cutting segments that added little to Edward Kenway's journey. It is an extremely fun game, both for newcomers and those revisiting the Caribbean seas.”

Lords Of Gaming Jul 8, 2026Score 90Pre-release Review

“Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced stands as a shining example of a remake done right. The beloved original has been respected in all the ways that matter, and overhauls to the visuals, combat and traversal have ensured that even the most nostalgic gamers will be hard pressed not to admit this is the definitive way to play their favourite pirate game. While the likes of Skull and Bones and Sea of Thieves have done their best to make sure that fans of pirate games have been catered for, there can be no doubt that Assassin's Creed Black Flag remains the gold standard in pirate-themed video games, and Resynced as appeared firmly on the horizon to reclaim its crown. Developer Ubisoft has scored a huge hit here at a time when it perhaps needed one the most.”

Digitec MagazineJul 8, 2026Score 60Pre-release Review

“Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad tells an engaging story that lets you experience the events of Aincrad from your own perspective, with emotional character moments and surprisingly dark themes. While the combat remains enjoyable, repetitive enemies and a highly linear quest structure quickly become monotonous. Its beautiful environments create the illusion of an open world, but exploration is largely superficial, making the adventure feel more like a single-player MMO without the benefits of actual multiplayer.”

“By preserving the soul of one of Ubisoft's greatest achievements while thoughtfully refining nearly every aspect surrounding it, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced succeeds where many remakes struggle. It honours the past without becoming trapped by it, whether stepping aboard the Jackdaw for the very first time or returning after years away, there has rarely been a better opportunity to answer the call of the Caribbean.”

With updated gameplay, more story and characters, as well as a stunning new take on the Caribbean, this remake is the absolute best way to experience this tale of assassins and pirates. A retread of a decade-plus-old game may not entice some, but it’s a masterful retelling sure to touch on many fans’ nostalgia and is the best suggestion for players to experience this story once more.”

“Despite its flaws, I enjoyed my over 50 hours with Echoes of Aincrad. It is an easy recommendation for fans of the franchise and a cautious recommendation for people who enjoy action JRPGs and are looking for an MMO feeling. Developer Game Studio Inc. created a solid foundation that they can hopefully build upon in the DLC or a sequel covering the higher floors of Aincrad.”
