Gamer Social ClubMay 21, 2026Score 80Pre-release Review

“Well… I guess persistence pays off. While Bubsy 4D may be over too soon, it’s still an overall very fun platformer and Bubsy is finally a likeable protagonist. If this is what the future holds for the bobcat, What could possibly go wrong?”

“Bubsy 4D has the makings of a modern classic, helmed by a team that has a clear ambition and design philosophy. It's issues are more fundamental, and in the fabric of Bubsy himself. I can take self-deprecation, but there comes a point where it stops being funny and becomes borderline pathetic. A mismatched level approach to level design means that both feel weak in spots, and I think you could have done more to bring those together. This is the best Bubsy game, but I can't say it isn't without fault.”

“Luna Abyss is a AA shooter that holds its own against some of the elite of the genre. Its enticing and ominous sci-fi world is a delight to look at artistically, even if its muddy graphics let it down on closer inspection. Its story is fine, but a slick sense of progression keeps its action and platforming interesting from start to finish.”

“Bubsy 3D is finally a good game worthy of the bobcat, offering a fun adventure with varied movement options and accessible yet satisfying 3D platforming. While the visuals lack personality and some stages feel repetitive, especially the tube-rolling sections, it still manages to revive the classic mascot with a genuinely enjoyable experience.”

Multiplayer FirstMay 21, 2026Score 75Pre-release Review

“Bubsy 4D could have easily been written off as another disappointing attempt to revive the series, but developer Fabraz put some love and care into it and gave us the best Bubsy game since at least the original two. The controls actually work well, the humor is there, and the actual gameplay is quite fun in a 3D environment. The biggest downside to the game overall is just how short it is, with only 15 levels, which feels more like a demo in that way. Even so, at least the series appears to be on the right track, and hopefully, this will be just the foundation to build upon for more fleshed-out adventures for Bubsy.”

“Bubsy 4D is definitely an improvement over the last 3D outing for the wise-cracking bobcat, but there's still lots of room for improvement. Both the camera and controls will feel like your biggest enemy here at times, and unless you're into speedrunning the experience may feel rather brief.”

“Bubsy 4D is an absolute joy to play, packed with a genuinely hilarious sense of humor. Featuring precise gameplay enhanced by excellent momentum, charismatic characters, and a charming aesthetic, the game brings one of gaming’s most infamous mascots back into the spotlight — and, if all goes well, this time he’s here to stay. The team at Fabraz has once again delivered a top-tier platformer and, despite a few aspects that could still be improved here and there — in some cases unrelated to the studio itself — there’s no denying that we are looking at one of the best platform games of 2026.”

Latest: R-Type Dimensions III

Nintendo LifeMay 21, 2026Score 50

“R-Type Dimensions III is a neat novelty remaster of a shoot-'em-up classic, but it should have been even neater. R-Type III isn't the series' best-known, and it has a nice novelty feel about it. The presentation work is decent in terms of configurable options and locked frame rates, and that snazzy 3D-2D button switch is a beguiling gimmick. But there's no getting around the fact that the developer has made a mess of the accuracy. Purists will be dismayed, and those attempting to play through it will feel incredibly frustrated by the increased and frankly unfair difficulty level. That the original SNES game is still here in some form, now running at 60fps, with a new two-player co-op mode and fresh audio remaster, may be enough to sell you on a purchase; it is, both happily and sadly as the case may be, still the superior version.”

““Bubsy 4D” certainly seems like a project thrown together in a hurry, in which the ambition to create a game that actually works has been sacrificed in favor of a marketing strategy centered on a character who has long since lost his charm. It’s hard—really hard—to find anything truly positive about this game.”

“Playground Games has proven once again that they are not only the kings of the racing genre, but that the core formula of the Forza Horizon series is so strong that they barely need to reinvent it. Forza Horizon 6 is the complete racing package, delivering everything fans could want and more. It's hard to imagine how Playground Games can improve on this formula going forward, but if their track record is anything to go by, they'll find a way.”

“Luna Abyss is more than the sum of its parts, with individual pieces that will all feel familiar, so much so that you've likely played a dozen games just like it. But it's standout character design, environmental storytelling, performances, writing, level design, first-person shooting combat and 3D platforming that ends before it has a chance to outstay its welcome make it a must-play for single-player shooter fans.”
