Latest: Bubsy 4D

Joe RichardsMay 21, 2026Score 75Pre-release Review

“Bubsy 4D has the makings of a modern classic, helmed by a team that has a clear ambition and design philosophy. It's issues are more fundamental, and in the fabric of Bubsy himself. I can take self-deprecation, but there comes a point where it stops being funny and becomes borderline pathetic. A mismatched level approach to level design means that both feel weak in spots, and I think you could have done more to bring those together. This is the best Bubsy game, but I can't say it isn't without fault.”

“If Bubsy 4D is an attempt to bring new players to this 33-year-old franchise, though, its poor level design, characterization, and platforming will ensure it won’t.”

Dean JamesMay 21, 2026Score 75Pre-release Review

“Bubsy 4D could have easily been written off as another disappointing attempt to revive the series, but developer Fabraz put some love and care into it and gave us the best Bubsy game since at least the original two. The controls actually work well, the humor is there, and the actual gameplay is quite fun in a 3D environment. The biggest downside to the game overall is just how short it is, with only 15 levels, which feels more like a demo in that way. Even so, at least the series appears to be on the right track, and hopefully, this will be just the foundation to build upon for more fleshed-out adventures for Bubsy.”

“"A Fun but Limited Action Experience" Bubsy 4D succeeds in delivering a solid mechanical foundation based on fast and fluid movement, making the experience enjoyable in terms of control and direct interaction. However, the game fails to balance this excellence with rich level design or sufficient interactive variety, making it feel limited compared to the best 3D platformers. The result is a fun and polished game in its core aspects, but it lacks the depth to ensure sustained enjoyment.”

“Bubsy 4D is a far better revival for the boisterous bobcat than I think anyone could have anticipated he’d ever receive. Fabraz nailed it out of the park here, turning a series that was essentially the internet’s platforming laughingstock into a brilliant and extremely enjoyable 3D platformer that I couldn’t stop playing. The camera can be a bit unwieldy on occasion, but that’s nowhere near enough to stop Bubsy 4D from being a top-notch game.”

“But as a game and a story I was hoping for something with a little more kick. Perhaps, much like an actual mixtape, it will get a nice place somewhere and you'll think about it every once in a while. Going back however will probably show the cracks in the foundation that were always there.”

“Bubsy 4D is an absolute joy to play, packed with a genuinely hilarious sense of humor. Featuring precise gameplay enhanced by excellent momentum, charismatic characters, and a charming aesthetic, the game brings one of gaming’s most infamous mascots back into the spotlight — and, if all goes well, this time he’s here to stay. The team at Fabraz has once again delivered a top-tier platformer and, despite a few aspects that could still be improved here and there — in some cases unrelated to the studio itself — there’s no denying that we are looking at one of the best platform games of 2026.”

“One of the most unexpected video game releases in a very long time, Bubsy 4D marks a triumphant return for the charismatic cat. With the platforming acumen of indie legend Fabraz, Bubsy finally gets the great game the series has been looking for in its 30-plus year history. Surely this mean's Bubsy's here to stay, right? I mean . . . what's the worst that could happen?”

“The Rugrats: Retro Rewind Collection is a decent enough way to play Search for Reptar in 2026 if you grew up playing it originally on the PlayStation. Beyond that, there isn’t much to really say that this is a must-buy. Maybe you can find some enjoyment in Studio Tour, but everything else here doesn’t hold up satisfyingly unless you consider yourself the most diehard of Rugrats fans, but even then, there isn’t much to celebrate here.”

Its enticing and ominous sci-fi world is a delight to look at artistically, even if its muddy graphics let it down on closer inspection. Its story is fine, but a slick sense of progression keeps its action and platforming interesting from start to finish.”

As a game in the Bubsy series, however, 4D shines as easily the best game the mouthy bobcat has ever given us, and is easily worth the time of platformer fans and those looking for a quick fix.”
