Flora and Fang is an adorable little single-screen action platformer with a fun premise. It combines two classic arcade game formulas in smart ways and adds neat features that keep the gameplay engaging. However, levels tend to drag on, and the game often feels like it’s setting you up to lose your hearts. Flora and Fang is an enjoyable experience, but it just misses the pacing and the magic spark that made its inspirations so compelling.

Flora & Fang: Guardians of the Vampire Garden is the type of game that would've kept my friends and I entertained late into a 1980s Saturday night. Familiar arcade gameplay is supplemented by modern tower defense strategies and upgrades, providing more longevity than first expected.

Flora & Fang is a perfect game if you're with a partner who enjoys tower defense games and doesn't mind the game's low light, but that's a very specific niche. However, focusing on specific niches is what we at NintendoBoy like to do, and Flora & Fang manages to fit that bill. Despite some personal issues (specifically, me being terrible at the game), I still had a lot of fun. However, it's not a game I'd say everyone would feel the same way about... Just to be safe, I'll sleep with a garlic necklace.

Flora & Fang: Guardians of the vampire garden is a sweet little arcade gem that delivers on its promise of fast-paced fun and quirky charm. Whether solo or with a co-op partner, it’s an enjoyable and surprisingly deep experience for the genre. It may not look like much at first glance, but stick with it and you’ll uncover an addictive loop full of cute chaos, clever mechanics, and lots of bug-squashing goodness.

With its steep difficulty curve and imbalanced co-op, Flora & Fang is a bit rough despite having a solid foundation and great visuals. 🧛

While it does a fair job of repackaging many elements of the classic Donkey Kong 3, and is certainly playable, it’s mostly just good… not necessarily great
