Launch Window“The cult adventure series Simon the Sorcerer is back! But is there anything to get excited about? Not really. This bland, unsalted adventure game won't even make a dog bark in a few months.”

Launch Window“Simon the Sorcerer Origins is a rare, complete alignment of concept, craft, and heart; a flawless prequel that honours its legacy while confidently reinventing it for today. Every element works in concert: the hand‑drawn animation sings with personality, the writing lands with relentless wit and unexpected tenderness, puzzles are clever without ever feeling cruel, and the audio elevates moments from amusing to unforgettable. This is not nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake; it’s a full‑blooded reinvention that keeps the soul of the original intact while offering modern players something genuinely new.”

Launch Window“But even so, Simon the Sorcerer Origins is a great experience if you want to enjoy a wonderful story. There are lots of gags in there, and they don’t shy away from adding some creative gameplay ideas. Sure, there are small frustrations, like stiff animations at times or bad inventory management, but that didn’t push me away from the game. If anything, it’s a solid game that certainly earns its spot as one of the best adventure games in the past few years.”

Launch Window“Simon The Sorcerer Origins is a game which some will love, and some will drop off of. However, in a time of re-releases with an extra 'episode' of content tacked on to the end, it's nice to get a full-blown new game in an old franchise.”

Launch Window“There are no major issues with Simon the Sorcerer’s prequel story overall. I didn’t encounter a single bug during the three and a half hours I spent with it, it looks pleasing to the eye (while its system requirements are roughly equivalent to two potatoes), and it gave my brain a proper workout. That said, if I had to explain what it offers that would make me pick it off the virtual shelf instead of Old Skies, Elroy and the Aliens, or even the upcoming Syberia remaster, I’d be hard-pressed to come up with a clear answer.”

Launch Window“The latest installment in the adventures of the wayward Szymek undoubtedly has a lot of charm. Besides its polished audio and visuals, the title offers tons of naughty humor and two gamepad control options (both of which are effective). If only the plot were more interesting and the whole thing a bit longer, it would be hard to find fault with anything.”

Launch Window“Simon the Sorcerer Origins looks fantastic, its writing is brilliant and its voice acting (particularly Chris Barrie) is absolutely stellar. It's a great example of a modern point-and-click game — but it's let down by some frustratingly difficult puzzles. It sorely needs a built-in hint system, but hey, at least you can just look up a guide.”
