Late Review

Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition is a strong reminder of why this series made such an impact in the first place. It keeps the match‑3 combat fast and rewarding, adds enough modern touches to make the experience smoother, and delivers a steady loop that’s easy to fall into for hours at a time. It’s not trying to reinvent the formula, but it doesn’t need to; the core idea still works brilliantly. If you enjoy puzzle games with a bit of strategy and progression baked in, this is a simple, reliable pick‑up on Xbox that delivers exactly what it promises.

Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition was never going to be a Game of the Year contender, but this remaster offers hours of gameplay at a fair price.

Perhaps Puzzle Quest really is back this time around, and the development team can use the momentum to finally deliver a second game that moves past the mistakes of previous efforts and builds on the heritage and prestige of the original.

Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition doesn't do much to distinguish itself from the previous version it replaces in the eShop. If you have that, you're fine. If you don't, this is a surprisingly deep, highly addictive match-three RPG that's well worth the price.

I love a game where you can literally pick up and play for a few minutes and put it down without consequence. I love being able to sink close to an hour at a time, doing the same rewarding actions, and then walk away without needing to get another move, another turn. It’s the most ideal way to casually enjoy a game, and Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition keeps players locked in for the most viciously enjoyable cycle that I could imagine. If you loved it the first time, you’re going to adore it the second.

On paper, this is a mash-up that shouldn’t work. But testament to Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition, and with this being the second remaster of the original game, it proves that it does indeed work. Be prepared to play an awful lot of tile matching gameplay with very little variation in between. But if you want a game to dip in and out of, a game that is deep enough to be called an RPG too, you could do a lot worse than Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition.

Immortal Edition is a package that shines in theory but falters in execution. The RPG elements remain engaging, the quest structure is robust, and the nostalgic weight of the original trilogy is undeniable. But all of that is held hostage by an AI that simply refuses to play fair. Puzzle Quest still has its charms, but when the board is this rigged, even the most loyal fans might find themselves questioning whether it’s worth the grind anymore.

Knowing exactly how to please its fans, Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition is a grand compilation of a true pillar of the genre, blending classic gem-matching puzzles with a progression typical of RPGs. Without attempting to reinvent itself, however, it doesn't go much beyond that, and the sheer volume of content isn't necessarily a desirable quality in a repetitive system that can tire in longer play sessions.

Infinite Interactive and 505 Games are back with a classic that we fell in love with during the Xbox 360 era. Despite being a match-3 game, what makes this title interesting is the role-playing essence that runs through it from start to finish. Fantastic touches, character equipment, magic, leveling up...

At its heart, Puzzle Quest is still the same dangerously addictive puzzle-RPG that hooked so many of us back in the day. The Immortal Edition bundles it all up, strips away the modern nonsense (no microtransactions, no energy timers), and gives you a huge, content-packed experience for a very fair price. Is it flashy? No. Is it revolutionary in 2025? Not really. But is it still one of the most compelling puzzle games out there? Absolutely. If you’ve never played Puzzle Quest before, this is the place to start. If you have, well, you already know how easily “just one more battle” turns into three hours gone.

Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition is an absolutely inessential upgrade for what is quite the timeless classic. It’s still a mighty fun and deep single player RPG campaign, with a ridiculously addictive core gameplay and plenty of content to boot. But the few changes and additions barely warrant a new version
