“Tokyo Xtreme Racer is ideal for those who miss a more objective game. The increasing challenge and hunting rivals through the cities of the Japanese capital is a satisfying mission, but it may disappoint those who wanted something deeper, mainly due to the initial grinding and the constant repetitiveness of entering and exiting the map all the time.”

“Even with my gripes, I obviously enjoyed my time with SH ƒ. Early in my first playthrough, I called this game Silent Hill 3‘s more quiet, subtle sister, and having completed it, I stand by that assessment. Both games deal with similar themes, but approach them in completely different ways. Heather Mason’s story was angry and violent and in-your-face about it, while Hinako’s is subdued and simmers over multiple playthroughs. I found it a really neat contrast that still provided an emotional, resonate conclusion I haven’t stopped thinking about since beating it. Hinako is one of the most relatable protagonists in a game I’ve played in a long time. Silent Hill ƒ is absolutely a Silent Hill game in all the ways that matter. While the repetitive, frustrating combat and less-than-scary atmosphere keep the game as a whole from reaching the vaunted heights of SH2 and SH3, Hinako’s story stands toe-to-toe with James’ as the best in the series. It’s a story that’s deeply humanizing and impactful, and one I think is worth experiencing.”

“I enjoyed this game a lot. It gives the player a lot of freedom when designing the islands; there are so many items to buy from the shop, and getting currency is easy. My time spent in the game was filled with designing and seeing how many achievements I could get by just playing. I managed to get a good amount of the overall achievements, and once I got about halfway through the game, I pulled up the Steam page to see which ones I could aim for. One of my favorites was to complete a level without a house on the island. I aimed for 100% in this game, but I’ve run into two issues. One, there is a bundle that I need to buy all the items for that is not in the shop. And two, there are a bunch of hidden achievements that I don’t even know where to start.”

It really is a work of art, nailing the aesthetic of early-'90s TV and uncannily capturing a time and place in the way a song or a smell evokes a memory - in a way that feels almost personal. You need to treat it like old-school TV, though, surfing a little bit each day and soaking up the static; do not approach it as a game. “I love the combat, aesthetics, and banter between characters. I had an extremely rough time in the boss fights due to technical qualms. I tried pushing forward, but losing at an unplayable mess of a boss fight takes you back to the start of the chapter to do everything all over again—a loss of progress. After dealing with this, I gave up and am waiting for fixes. I suggest playing Wander Stars on Steam, because there is something so special here with this RPG teasing well-known anime tropes with a dark-skinned girl of colour lead–a rarity in the shounen genre. But for me, the unplayable mess it became has driven me away from the game’s Nintendo Switch version.”
