WitchSpring R tells a clear story with expressive NPCs and a good dose of humour. Some mechanics seem unnecessary there, but gameplay remains extremely absorbing nevertheless. And if only for that reason, the title deserves more attention than it got so far.

Witchspring R is a title that offers a wealth of narrative and gameplay satisfaction. A well-crafted story and well-developed characters are paired with gameplay that, while simple and relaxing, never feels overly repetitive or boring. Despite a rather "heavy" ending and the inability to skip dialogues (even in NG+), this game remains an excellent option for anyone who loves the JRPG genre or seeks a relaxing adventure experience.

That all being said, WitchSpring R is an achievement. Coming from a two person development team, this is a labor of love that remade the first game in a mobile gaming series into a hidden gem of an RPG that is well worth your time. I enjoyed every moment I had with WitchSpring R and I'll be keeping an eye out for any other games from Kiwiwalks. This is a really great concept and I hope to see a lot more from this series and this game.

WitchSpring R may not be the most refined and complex title in the genre, but it is without a doubt a game that manages to tell a captivating story, with interesting characters and an engaging and balanced gameplay. Despite being a relatively short game when compared to other RPGs, WitchSpring R also stands out for the life quality of its mechanics, serving as a benchmark for even the biggest titles in the genre. Overall, I believe that WitchSpring R is certainly a game that will remain in the memory of everyone who gives it a chance.

Underneath its charming exterior, WitchSpring R is a JRPG…it's just not evident of that classification until the 20th hour. At that point, it doesn't matter what genre it is, only that it keeps you fully engaged. From the lack of necessary grinding, hidden depth within its crafting system, and piecemeal sidequests, there's quite a bit of unique things to do in WitchSpring R on Pieberry's quest for pie. Thankfully, that charm persists until the very end.

If you're willing to look past a handful of typos and some fairly significant visual issues, WitchSpring R is a great example of turn-based combat with a strong story to back it up. It's whimsical and enchanting, and you won't be able to predict how it all ends. On top of this, the NG+ option gives it an extra splash of replayability for players who like a challenge. That being said, the visual quirks do take a toll on the score here. While they weren't game-breaking, having the main character pop out of existence during crucial cutscenes was frustrating, and it did affect our overall experience.

The game is fun, right to the end. It makes you smile and gives you that carefree air that few games manage to give. WitchSpring R has everything a JRPG should have: gameplay, storyline, artistic side. All this is present within the game, creating a little gem in the gaming industry.

WitchSpring R isn’t just a solid JRPG for fans looking for a new title; it’s a great choice for someone’s first foray into the genre. With a well-paced series of tutorials and new options fed at a pace easy enough for anyone to comprehend, it’s also a game that’s not looking to make itself difficult for you. The plot may be simple, but it’s also adorably presented, bracketed by flourishes that are intriguing and inventive without simply being dark. In fact, it’s a game that feels like it’s saying that the past, while hard to forget, can be overcome by kindness and understanding. Pieberry is a good kid, and while she does have choices ahead of her, it’s easy to want to nurture her innocence and charm. It’s a game that’s a great fit for the Switch and a definite no-brainer for anyone looking for a classic turn-based joy ride.

With cute and affectionate visuals and a casual friendly character building system, some of the classic RPG meta such as inconvenient item combinations and bland turn based combat were at least given a polished look with specific tutorials and 3D artistic designs. With plenty of eye candy elements, the immersion during gameplay is also pleasantly rewarding.
