Bloomtown: A Different Story is everything I want from a video game. A hugely enjoyable story, slick script, bombastic battles, and the freedom to interact with the world in odd and inventive ways. It's pretty much essential.

Bloomtown: A Different Story is a brilliant spin on Persona with a different perspective and narrative that’ll keep you coming back for more. Some people come for the story, some will love it for the battle, but a select few will absolutely adore it for everything it is. You’re in for a hell of a ride with this adventure and the chaotic goodness from the demonic side of things.

Bloomtown: A Different Story is a pixelated RPG that takes heavy inspiration from the Persona series. While some cosy gamers may enjoy it and its music, there are some gameplay elements that drew me out of my immersion.

Bloomtown: A Different Story is a very special game, and one of 2024's hidden gems. While its premise and combat won't come across as the most original at a glance, the sheer care and skill at which the developers combine those familiar ingredients, from its fluid animations, engaging narrative, earwormy soundtrack and surprisingly deep combat, all come together in an exceptional package. If you wanted a bite-sized Persona game that you can finish in a reasonable timeframe, or are just a fan of turn-based RPGs in general, Bloomtown: A Different Story is a very easy recommend.

Despite a few minor issues, Bloomtown: A Different Story is a game that'll stick with you long after you put it down. The blend of comforting and creepy is masterful, and the game presents a surprising amount of challenge in places. With everything from boss fights and puzzles to intricate crafting and skill-building, there's a lot to get excited about here. Bloomtown was clearly made with a lot of love and attention to detail, and it's the perfect pick for anyone who enjoys rich stories paired with riddles and tricky, turn-based combat.

Bloomtown: A Different Story combines qualities from several genres, but it does so in a very competent way. With its turn-based combat system reinforced by the demons' abilities, a story that addresses important themes in a light-hearted way, and very interesting social management, it becomes an RPG that deserves the attention of fans of the genre.

Overall, Bloomtown: A Different Story is like a carefree summer vacation. It's a fun ride with its quirky characters, cozy blended with spooky vibes, and some thoughtful moments that have the foundation for a great game. The gorgeous visuals paint the world beautifully and its demons are original and striking to see in battle. However, this game lacks the depth and voice to stand out in its genre, especially with how closely it uses Persona as an inspiration.

Bloomtown: A Different Story is a fun time all around, the world comes together in a wondrous way with that small town feel. Both sides of its extremes from cozy to unethical monster taming. Along with the relaxing day by day activities on the side. Having one of the best soundtracks I have heard in a while does not hurt either.

There is a lot to love about Bloomtown: A Different Story. Thanks to the game's fantastic writing and characters, I quickly fell in love with the town and its residents. Its soundtrack is brilliant, and the pixel art style really catches your eye. It's just a shame that some parts of its questing and combat hinder it from truly rising to greatness.

A few years ago, Bloomtown: A Different Story would have been a top-tier JRPG experience second to none. But with today's offerings, I can only say that it succeeds in delivering a better-than-average experience. It has some incredibly charming moments with each character and an appealing art style, but also classic tropes that wear down the narrative to the most patient of gamers.
