Late Review

Platypus Reclayed is a fun shoot ‘em up game that brings back the classic claymation shooter with improved visuals, weapons, and handcrafted flair. While the story is minimal, it has a charm that draws players back. Overall, it’s a claytastic blast.

Level design comes with the occasionally odd difficulty spike in places, but in general provides a satisfying shoot-em-up experience. It doesn't really push any boundaries in the gameplay department but handles the basics well. On very rare occasions the gameplay takes second seat to the visuals but most of the time they work together to create an memorable and enthralling journey.

Platypus Reclayed is a very stylized, but overall simple shooter that can leave an impression on you. Like I mentioned at the start of the review, I love this Claymation style of art so it was a treat to experience this game in 4K. If you want a fun, and quirky shooter that is not only fun to play but challenging, then you will love this. Very cool and highly recommended!

It stands out with its simple yet deep gameplay and fast-paced yet enjoyable design. Even if just for ten-minute sessions, it's a gem that deserves a place in every gamer's library. Platypus Reclayed brings a picturesque combination of an unusual visual style for games in general, especially for shoot 'em ups, with a fierce difficulty level and crazy power-ups. You could even say it's a game made, and remade, with detailed and artisanal craftsmanship.

Despite my frustration with the 4th stage and occasional difficulty with the game’s balance, Platypus Reclayed is still a very unique and enjoyable Shmup overall. It even features two-player co-op, a feature I wasn’t able to try out. I’d say fans of the genre will still find something to enjoy here and will likely find the challenge easier to deal with. But if you’re not confident of your when it comes to shooters, you might want to try another adventure.

Platypus Reclayed is an excellent remake of a classic shooter. A full rebuild that has been crafted with a lot of love and community engagement (do checkout the fun Claymatic Discord) that met every expectation I had. Showing no signs of ageing, the gameplay improvements make the 23 year old game feel brand new.
