Spy x Anya: Operation Memories is a game that’s definitely targeted at the series’ fans. The slice-of-life family outings and mini-games won’t be enough to engage games unfamiliar with the manga or anime and their story. For folks who feel like the best part of waking is having more servings of the Forger family in their cup, however, Spy x Anya: Operation Memories basically means more Spy x Family to enjoy.

Spy X Anya: Operation Memories is a faithful recreation of Spy X Family with its visual design and premise. It however is a game that if you aren’t a fan of this series will not interest people in trying out the source material.

The only reason that will make you enjoy SPYxANYA: Operation Memories is your love for the anime or the manga. When you hear the voice performances, music, and special effects of the anime, and see the reactions of the characters, you will be happy for a while, but the game is full of problems and applies the daily routine of Anya in the worst possible way , which makes SPYxANYA: Operation Memories a missed opportunity to make a good game based on a great anime like SPYxFAMILY.

But if you love Spy x Family, there’s still plenty to enjoy here. Exploring the Forger household, small as it may be, is unquestionably fun – and Anya is as expressive and amusing as ever, resulting in regular laugh-out-loud moments. It’s not a bad game, then – in fact, it’s something a little different in the licensed anime category. But it could have benefitted from a bit more variety.

SPYxANYA: Operation Memories's simple yet fun mechanics, such as capturing perfect moments for Anya's diary and participating in charming mini-games, offer a relaxing and enjoyable gameplay loop. With its emphasis on family, love, and the everyday adventures of the Forger family, this game is a heartfelt recommendation for anyone looking for a cozy little game that is simple, good, and fun.

SPY×ANYA: Operation Memories is a pleasant game that is soon punished by its lack of freedom and repetitive pace. Although the mini-games and the outfits available for the characters stand out, there is a lot of padding in it, so it is advisable to play it in small doses to better savor this adventure starring Anya.

SPYxANYA: Operation Memories leaned heavy into Anya’s cuteness, the minigames were pretty detailed but everything else was monotonous.

There is a certain potential in SPYxANYA: Operation Memories, both because of the intellectual property on which it's based and because of the gameplay premise. However, what ended up being delivered was a game that apparently doesn't know its own limitations very well and didn't know how to take advantage of the good ideas and concepts that make up the gameplay premise of the game.

If you're a fan of the anime, Spy x Anya: Operation Memories will feel like a relaxed, slice-of-life side-story, complete with wholesome, adorable moments and some fun interactions between the characters you love. The stakes are low and the gameplay is perhaps too easy, but it's a good way to unwind after a busy day. Between the wealth of minigames to choose from – some of them actually quite good, others lacklustre – and the dozens of outfits to put the Forgers in, anime fans will find a way to play that suits them.

Ultimately, this game is an exceptionally charming and cute look at the life of a little girl and her family, and can tug at the heartstrings. The immense variety in minigames is fun, and there are so many little challenges to accomplish throughout the game that there is always something to work towards. There is a large selection of cosmetics as well, which provides an extra little boost of joy through getting to dress up Anya and do her hair, as well as other family members. Whether or not someone knows Spy x Family well, Spy x Anya: Operation Memories is a true joy to play for a relaxing, cozy experience.

I think it's fair to say that Spy X Anya is for a very specific crowd of people. If you like Animal Crossing and you love the Forger household along with some of their compatriots, this is probably the game for you. You might play a pretty decent chunk of it like I did, and get your money's worth. But honestly I can only recommend picking this up on sale. What's here is perfectly functional yet barebones and I don't think that's enough to rate it highly. With over 32-story missions, 49 side missions, and 51 challenge missions, you have a lot of game to enjoy if this sounds appealing to you. Or maybe giving Yor a ponytail for the entire game gives you gender euphoria and that makes Spy X Anya the perfect game.

Ever wondered what the everyday ‘normal’ life would be of the Spy x Family characters? This game is basically the scratch of that itch brewed into a video game for the loyal fans of its anime series. Surely, many fans could, and may have been curious about the day of a life of the protagonist and her family. While the game’s narrative may not be canon, the surprises and expectations through the perspective of Anya is truly an exceptional experience that you would have never felt through the original animated series.

Thanks to a very pleasant visual and sound sector (with some hesitation during the most demanding mini-games, especially those in the company of Yor), Operation Memories knows well which audience to address and hits the target all in all, but it must be played in small doses.

You’ll probably get something out of Spy x Anya if you’re a massive fan of the show, but even if you're fairly enthusiastic about it like myself, you’ll find it lacking. It’s extremely faithful to the show in both humor and aesthetic, but it requires a prohibitively high tolerance for repetitiveness. There’s fun to be had, but it’s locked behind hours of taking photos, lackluster conversations, and repetitive busywork. It’s nowhere near the quality of a must-play title for a Spy x Family fan, and you can probably get as much satisfaction from rewatching the show.

If you are a super fan and go with the mentality that it will be a product that can be called acceptable as a video game, you may find it entertaining, although I would say that it should be consumed slowly so as not to find it boring. On the other side of the coin, if you don't know this anime and want to approach it from here, better take a look at the first season beforehand and then decide if you want to play it or not.

SPY x ANYA: Operation Memories isn't the most exciting anime game as it's mostly about experiencing and taking pictures various scenarios with Anya with her family and friends. While it would've been better to see more original scenarios, the heartwarming moments will delight Spy x Family fans. Plus, the minigames are fun to play with family or partner.
