Late Review“MACROSS: Shooting Insight caters well to longtime fans with its nostalgic charm and accessibility, though questionable design choices may deter newcomers”

Late Review“Whether you’re a Macross veteran or someone who has always wanted to check out the series, Macross -Shooting Insight- features a ton of shoot ’em up fun. Thanks to the constantly changing gameplay, stages always keep players on their toes.”

Late Review“I think Macross - Shooting Insight is a tough one to recommend to most people. The Macross side of it isn’t exactly compelling, the story is an excuse to toss all these characters together into one scenario, and it’s not particularly compelling or interesting, quickly becoming something you’ll skip through as you near the end.”

Late Review“MACROSS-Shooting Insight may feel run of the mill with the way it covers four types of shooters, but is still enjoyable and a bit challenging. If you're really good at shooters or bullet-hell games, you'll find a decent challenge here while those not as experienced can tone down the difficulty a bit to their liking. While the game looks nice graphically and is fun to play, for genre veterans the gameplay is a bit average.”

Late Review“MACROSS -Shooting Insight- leaves a lot to be desired. Fans will adore the songs and interactions but a simple plot and lacking extras make this a difficult recommendation.”

Late Review“balancing issues, uninspired presentation, and reliance on accessibility features to offset its steep difficulty, Macross Shooting Insight struggles to live up to the potential of the Macross franchise. While it has some creative ideas in blending multiple shooting styles, the execution feels uneven. Fans of Macross may find some enjoyment in seeing their favorite ships and characters together, but as a shmup, it shakes things up but doesn’t quite hit the mark.”

Late Review“While the game does deliver fun, frustration, and challenge, it also brings a lot of characters, music, and personality with it. Familiar faces loom in the character selection screen, as you can play a variety of different pilots and ships in the game. Each brings their way of fighting, while also bringing their collectibles to gobble up while you take down baddies.”

Late Review“MACROSS -Shooting Insight-, the first game in the Macross anime franchise officially released in the West, offers us a shooter that constantly changes the perspective depending on the phase we are in. With a story with dimensional folds that serve as an excuse to bring together a cast of pilots, singers and valkyries from different series of the franchise in the same time and place. With fanservice as its strong point, MACROSS -Shooting Insight- is an entertaining shooter but without great aspirations, from which fans of the franchise will get much more out of it.”

Late Review“MACROSS -Shooting Insight- may ultimately be a good fan service title, and it has the modes to boot! But too many cardinal sins add that make for a rather frustrating shoot ’em up experience.”

Late Review“For those who were looking for a good shmup in MACROSS -Shooting Insight-, I suggest spending your hard-earned gold coins on other games of the same style, which are abundantly present in the library of Nintendo's hybrid console. Everything you've tried has failed. I don't recommend the game even to the most inveterate player of the style.”

Late Review“It's true that MACROSS -Shooting Insight- is very been-there-done-that but at the same time, the sense of variety when it comes to both its gameplay and its stellar soundtrack make it an overall enjoyable experience. 👩🎤”

Late Review“But an oftentimes inscrutable, poorly told story is unlikely to win over any new fans. I'll also note that in Japan, all content that featured the cast of the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross was contained to a separate DLC. Currently that DLC is not available in this release, and seems unlikely to become so in the future, due to licensing issues. Still I'll take what I can get, and it is great to see this series making an appearance at all.”

Late Review“Macross Shooting Insight has a lot of missed opportunities, but it still manages to be a fun game with the content it does offer. There are better Macross games out there, but not in English, and there are better shoot em ups out there, that are in English. Even so, I found myself enjoying this game for what it is, and I will keep coming back to it for years to come. It has a lot I like, but it also has disappointments. I love the music, but I also wish they added at least a few more tracks. I like the characters, but I wish there were at least a few more. The stages are fun, but I wish we had more than just ten.”
